What changed in Hushglass

Version 1.0.6

Hushglass now speaks German, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese as well as English. It follows the language your Windows is set to, and you can pick another in Settings under Language; your pick stays.

Protecting a File Explorer folder used to cover parts of Windows too: the right-click menu, the hidden icons by the clock and the Run box were treated as new windows of the protected folder, each with a notification when it opened and the Protection ended sound when it closed. Now only File Explorer's own windows follow a protected folder, such as other folder windows and the Properties and copy-progress dialogs, and Windows' menus are left alone.

A pop-up that Hushglass protected on its own now closes quietly. Protection ended and its sound are kept for windows you protected yourself, which is where they matter.

If another app already uses Ctrl+Shift+Q when Hushglass starts, Hushglass now tells you. Before, the shortcut simply did nothing.

Prices inside the app now say "+ tax", because tax is added at checkout depending on where you are.

Update if any of that is worth having. Installing over 1.0.5 keeps your settings and your license. If you installed from the Microsoft Store, the Store updates it for you.

Hushglass now starts with Windows, so the app is already running in the tray by the clock before your first call of the day. This version switches it on once, whether you are installing for the first time or updating, and the Microsoft Store version starts with Windows too, which it could not do before. If you would rather it did not, turn it off in Settings under Start automatically when my computer starts, and it stays off.

A protected window that is minimised now shows only its app icon in Alt+Tab, in Task View and in the preview that pops up over the taskbar, instead of what is in it. While a protected window is open on your screen, Windows still draws its real content in those previews, so the old advice stands: stay out of Alt+Tab while you share.

The window list has checkboxes. Tick the windows you want and press Protect or Remove Protection; the ticks clear once it is done.

Updating from this website or with winget used to switch off Start automatically when my computer starts. That is fixed, so from this version on, an update leaves your choice as it is.

Hushglass is now on the Microsoft Store. Installing from there takes one click and shows no download warning, because Microsoft signs the packages it distributes. It is the same application; only the way it reaches your machine is different. The copy downloaded from this website is still not code signed, so a browser may still warn about it.

If you installed from this website, there is nothing in this release for you, and we would rather say so than pad it out. Everything that changed in 1.0.4 applies only to the Store package — how it starts up, how it handles updates, and what it shows in Settings. None of that code runs in the version downloaded from here. On a website install, 1.0.4 and 1.0.3 behave identically.

Update if you would rather keep the version numbers matching. Installing over 1.0.3 keeps your settings and your license. There is no hurry with this one.

The setting that keeps the Hushglass window itself out of your screen share was not working. With it switched on, the Hushglass window could still be seen by the people watching, including the list of window titles inside it. That is fixed.

The windows you protected were not affected. What viewers saw in place of a protected window has always worked and still does — this was only ever about the Hushglass window itself.

Hushglass now looks for new versions while it is running, not only when it starts. If you keep the app in the tray for days at a time, it would previously never have told you an update existed.

Two smaller things: only one dialog can open at a time now, and a notification can no longer arrive from a window that has already closed.

The small orange marker on a protected window is now sized for the screen it is on. Drag that window to a monitor with a different display scale and the marker comes with it at the right size, instead of arriving too large or too small.

On the free plan, when an app you have already protected opens a second window, Hushglass now tells you. That window is visible to the people watching your screen share, and the app keeps saying so for as long as it is open.

Updating while Hushglass is running works now, and the app comes back on its own afterwards. This matters if you install from the command line, where the previous version would stop with an error instead.

Hushglass protects windows exactly as it did before. This release only changes how the app installs and sits on your machine.

Antivirus software gets along with it better now. The app is also about a quarter of its previous size, so it downloads faster. On a PC running Windows older than version 2004, the installer explains what is missing instead of showing a generic Windows message.

Update if any of that is worth having. Installing over 1.0.0 keeps your settings and your license, so there is nothing to set up again.
